Tips for Creating Natural, Candid Images With Your Photographer
Nerves
You and literally everyone feels nervous in front of the camera. You’re not alone. But that’s why you hired a professional! I’ve got you covered with cues/posing & will be hyping you up the whole time.
Also, The nerves always die down after about 10-15 minutes once we get into a flow & you get comfortable with my presence.
Posing
You’ll never have to come up with poses or be wondering what to do, I’ll be guiding you the whole time and making sure you look your best.
That being said - being overly posed looks & feels weird. So once I get you into a position, feel free to settle in & get comfy.
Movement
The more you move around & interact with each other, the more diversity there will be in your images.
kiss, sway, hug, dance, run, spin, hug, tousle, rub, squeeze, pinch, snuggle, touch, caress... just try to interact with each other as much as you can - those are the money shots!
Have Fun
Have fun with it and try not to worry about what you look like.
we’ll take hundreds (& hundreds, & hundreds) of photos, and I am only going to deliver a fraction of those images (the best of the best). My favourites are often the the unplanned, unposed, authentic reactions between you and your partner.
Be Present
I want you interacting with each other or being present in whatever you’re doing. Feel free to talk to each other, joke around, laugh - whatever feels best in the moment.
Try not to look directly at the camera unless I ask you.
If you do I’ll dock you 5 points — jokinnnng.
If I ask you to do something that you’re not comfortable with, or feels strange - just let me know. No hard feelings.
I’ll be communicating with you the entire time, letting you know what I’m doing and why. if I’m ever quiet - that’s a good thing, I’m just lost in the art! Don’t stress.
Communicate
I’m Not a Magician (yet)
Am I going to be there to guide you so we can achieve all your wildest photography dreams? Absolutely! But this is a game of push & pull. if you want to have images that convey a certain emotion/feeling, you gotta be willing to put your guard down and get vulnerable with me, so we can capture those moments together.
give yourself ample time to open up & get comfortable (this is why rushing through sessions is always a no-no), but the more vulnerable you are with me & each other, the more realistic your photos will feel.
Ultimately I just want these images to be a natural representation of you as a couple - so don’t try to be anything you’re not.
Get at me for any questions, big or small. I want you to feel fully prepared so we can transform those nerves into full blown excitement.
(please make sure all parties have read this info prior to the shoot so we’re all in the know).
